Vikings
The Vikings, striving for land, decided to leave their home and scavenge for new land. They invaded much of Eastern Europe, such as Germany, Italy, Britain, Ireland, and what we know as modern day France. One reason the Vikings were so feared was because they used unorthodox weapons, one of them being a sword called the Ulfberht. The Vikings were known as Norse men. After invading the Frankish empire, it got a new name: Normandy.
Above is a picture of a Viking longship. Viking longships were long, sleek, fast boats designed to travel up narrow rivers. These boats could carry up to 120 men at once. On the prow of the boat usually was a fierce creature, used for the purpose of frightening spirits of the land they were invading. Vikings steered this boat according to the sun, stars, and knowledge collected from previous raiders.
