Food and Feasts
The purpose of grandiose feasts held by the king was to flee daily life or hold special occasions. The feasts would take place in the castle hall, sometimes referred to as the Great Hall. The King's court may be invited to a feast, such as his nobles. Some foods eaten were wild game, fish, dried and fresh fruit, and vegetables. Spices were used for seasoning and preserving game. Falconry is the sport of hunting with falcons or the keeping and training of such bird. Entertainment at feasts included music, juggling, dancers, and poets. Some instruments were: the harp, the fiddle, the rebec, the dulcimer, the hurdy-gurdy, the viol, the flute, the pipe, the bagpipe, the cymbal, and the tambourine.
